1. About 2000 years ago a Greek philosopher and scientist named Aristotle became one of the first to really go in depth of what motion was. He put motion in two different classes natural motion and violent motion. Natural motion was the nature of the way the object moved not changing from the four elements. VIolent motion is the motion resulting from pushing or pulling. Basically violent motion is the motion caused by another moving force such as a person pushing a cart or the wind moving a ship.

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer who believed that the sun and the moon didn't circle the Earth that the easiest explanation for there general movement was that the Earth moved around the Sun. For many years he didn't publicly discuss his theory on the movement of the Earth and the Sun from fear of being persecuted because the idea of the Earth moving around the sun was very different from common knowledge.
