Today in physics we learned Newtons First Law, which can be found in Ch. 2 on page 22.
force(F)=any push or pull on an object. If your going to apply force on something, you have to touch it. -force causes motion (acceleration) -force can stop motion (acceleration) -constant velocity (zero acceleration) a=om/s2 you have to have a force in order to have acceleration. reminder acceleration is a change in velocity
Gravitational force is pulling you down while another force is holding you up. The force that is pulling you down and holding you up must be balanced balanced(no net forces) F=o net force is all the forces on an object added together. If force is equal to zero then you are at a constant velocity. If the forces are not balanced then there will be acceleration, if the forces are balanced then there is no acceleration.
Units: newton's (N) pounds (lb)
Mass (m): amount of matter or stuff in an object. Bigger objects usually have more mass. Smaller objects usually have less mass.

From my sources (http://science.discovery.com/interactives/literacy/newton/media/newtonfinal415.swf) I found that an object at rest will never move unless an external source pushes on it, and an object in motion will never stop unless another force stops it.
The fine example given on the site was a apple and a worm with zero motion until you click it and a hand pushes it and thus puts it in motion and only the force of a wall stops the worm from moving any more.
